Artist Tarina Doolittle's Blush is a series of collages inspired by the question, “Have your morals made you blush?” This exhibition is the natural result of an intuitive, diachronic exploration into sexuality and morality. This can be seen in the blend of cutouts used within the collages, which were taken from Playboy (1955-1972), art history textbooks, and TIME Life books, among others.
There are 54 collages plus two installations in total, mounted on a variety of vintage wallpaper ranging from the midcentury, art deco-inspired to the farmhouse style the artist grew up seeing in people’s homes. Each collage contains a mini-narrative in itself, from quirkily sexual moments of humor to emotionally-charged war portraits. The exhibition lightheartedly critiques the residual puritan fear of the female form that some still carry today. It will offend these people. To that, the artist says, “Good.”
