We’re so excited to have gotten such amazing support from the community about this project. We want all of you to be a part of making this park a reality for everyone in Commerce!
Here’s the status on the park so far:
1. First we drafted a petition and got your support.
2. Then we took your signatures, over 250 names, to city hall.
3. Mayor Rebollo was very excited about the project and set up a presentation at the following city council meeting.
4. We gave a presentation at the city council meeting and received very positive response from the councilmembers.
5. City administrators began investigating ownership of the proposed land in order to find the best location.
6. It was confirmed that the land we are proposing is currently owned by CalTrans.
7. The city agreed to move forward in negotiating the acquisition of this plot of land and offering a different plot of land if we are unable to acquire this land.
8. We are now partnering with Commerce United and other community groups to put pressure on the city to make the Dog Park a priority!
How you can help:
Tell your friends, family members, and neighbors! The more people that are excited about the dog park, the more the city with prioritize it as a top project. If you own or work for a printing, manufacturing, or construction business email elina@smallgreendoor.com. We want to hire with local Commerce businesses to build and promote everything related to the park. This park will be built by the neighborhood for the neighborhood. Follow us on social media to find out about Commerce Dog Park stickers, T-Shirts, and an upcoming Kickstarter campaign. Lastly, contact your local representatives, city council members, and city leaders to ask them to make the Commerce Dog Park a top priority!
Who are we?
If you’re wondering who’s organizing this petition, allow us to introduce ourselves! We work at Small Green Door, a branding agency on Atlantic Blvd. Our founder grew up just down the street and is passionate about giving back to the community. The dog park was just a dream at first, but as we talked to our neighbors and friends in the Commerce area we realized lots of other people want a dog park too. There are currently no dog parks in the East LA area, but tons of dogs and people that would enjoy more outdoor space to run and play. Email us back to say hello and let us know what you want to see in the park.
