ELEMENTAL EXIGENCY
August 5th - August, 19th 2017
Los Angeles, CA – Small Green Door is pleased to present “Elemental Exigency” – an environmental arts exhibition that explores the elemental repercussions of human habitation on Earth through photography, painting, sculpture, performance, poetry and immersive installation. As life on this planet faces increasing threats from climate change accelerated by human impact, this exhibition will showcase how a number artists in Los Angeles and beyond are responding to the elemental forces of their natural environment.
Elemental Exigency will feature work by artists Adrienne Adar, Danté Marshall, Alexis Myre, Orson Oblowitz, Rezm Orah, Gretchen Ryan, Tushar Routh, Alexandra Velasco and Eddy Vajarakitipongse. This exciting new group of artists uses the practice of art as a means to examine the intricate processes and patterns in nature. Their work reveals new potential for humanity’s complex relationship with the natural world. These artists represent a spectrum of artistic disciplines with diverse vantage points shaped by their landscape, terrain, culture, and identity. In experiencing their work we come to understand personal accounts of survival and regeneration in the human habitable range.
Elemental Exigency will be on view from August 5th to August 19th. An opening reception, where a live solar powered concert will happen, is to be held on August 5th from 7:00 pm to 11:00 pm. All are welcome, hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be provided. Small Green Door is located at 2075 South Atlantic Blvd. in the city of Commerce, CA – 15 minutes south of Downtown LA.
Our environmental arts exhibition has the goal of promoting progressive modes of sustainability and natural agriculture. In order to embolden this environmental commitment, Small Green Door has partnered with Sunstock Solar Festival to make this exhibition a fully solar-powered and waste-free event. The Shumei Center of Hollywood is serving as the agricultural ambassador of this exhibition and will be leading a daylong arts and agriculture workshop for kids of all ages to better understand the fundamental relationship between nourishing the mind and nourishing the Earth. Continued environmental and educational programming will take place at Small Green Door throughout the exhibition dates.
