Small Green Door partnered with the META Foundation to host LA Artists for Scholars Exhibition and Art Auction-- a one night event of art and appetizers benefitting META’s 90 Latino college scholars. The exhibition featured a curated selection of paintings, photographs, and sculptures from rising and established Los Angeles artists.
Our network of friends and creatives helped make this night both possible and successful.
Cisco Pinedo, founder of Cisco Home Furnishings and a META Board Member, is one of the chefs who generously donated his time and culinary skills. Cisco's love for his community is present in everything he touches, from furniture to food to philanthropy. Cisco cooked up his one-of-a-kind paella for all who came out to support META's Latino scholars.
Latino-owned and operated brewery, Inquisitor Brewing Company, poured craft beer flights for the occasion. They featured their newest brew: an Orange Bang-inspired cream ale with lactose, sweet orange peel, and oranges served on nitro. Another Latino-owned business, Wine Stop, served refreshing regional wines from Spain and Portugal. The wine, accompanied by artisan cheeses, breads, and nuts made for a pleasant and sophisticated pairing that guests enjoyed while they bid on the work generously donated by a slew of LA-based artists.
In the background, a Latino-fronted jazz ensemble serenaded the crowd until some of META’s scholars addressed the crowd of attendees. We heard their stories-- who they are, where the came from, and where they want to go. While their journeys varied, there was one thing they all had in common: they got the education they deserved because of META.
Our initial goal for this event was to raise $5,000 for META and its scholars. Between ticket sales, art purchases, pledges, and outside donations, we beat our goal by 120%, raising over $7,000 in one night!
We couldn’t be more proud to have been involved with this event, and we can’t wait to host the next one!
