Enjoy your “Weekend with Chaco & Friends” as we move through Small Green Door exploring concepts like internalized oppression, assimilation, and liberation in this virtual art show.
Isaac Ruelas, also known as Chaco, is a painter and artist born and raised on Tongva land in Los Angeles. This Arts and Eats virtual series presents work by the artist that encompasses the dimensions of Latinx life, breaking from the tired stories that brown folks are poor, gangsters, and struggling immigrants and presents a nuanced and personal perspective of liberation.
Bright, vibrant colors in mixed media depict living subjects as well as cultural symbols, creating an experience that taps into spiritual and ancestral themes while also observing -- and reflecting -- modern life. This show is about reminding LA of the beauty, diversity, and stability that is at the heart of Latinx Angelenos. We are more than victims of gentrification, racism and xenophobia. We are strong, we are loving, and we are still here.
Get your recipes ready and RSVP for the link. We look forward to discussing how to break the mold and be your true, authentic self in the art world.
